traveling snubbers

1. n. [Well Workover and Intervention]

The traveling slip set on a snubbing unit that is used when operating under light-pipe conditions. Under these conditions, the wellhead pressure is sufficient to eject the tubing string from the wellbore. Therefore, the slips are oriented in a hold-down position to act against the upward force applied to the tubing string.
