The designation of a standard developed by ASTM International. Until 2001, ASTM was an acronym for the American Society for Testing and Materials, but the organization changed its name to ASTM International to reflect its global scope as a forum for development of international voluntary consensus standards. Some API procedures for drilling fluids are similar to ASTM procedures.
